GPT-6 Sol or Astra for a Creative Brief?

How the two models are sold

OpenAI calls Astra its best model across the board and positions Sol as the model for difficult work at higher usage limits and lower cost. At list API prices Sol is one fifth of Astra's price for both input and output.

In ChatGPT Work the Default picker makes the trade-off visible. On September 23 its six-stop Power slider ran from GPT-6 Luna High through Sol Light and Sol Medium to Astra Light, Astra Medium and Astra Extra High, with every stop marked as using limits faster.

The brief both models received

The brief describes a neighbourhood bakery launching a Pumpkin Rye Sourdough: date, price, 60 loaves, preorder deadline, no discount, no delivery. It asks for a creative brief, three 4:5 image prompts with no lettering, and a caption, and it asks the model to list anything it had to guess.

You are planning one Instagram post for a small neighbourhood bakery. Use only the facts below. If you need anything that is not in the facts, write it in a list called "Assumptions" instead of stating it as true.

Facts:
- Bakery: Kettle & Crumb, 14 Alder Street
- New product: Pumpkin Rye Sourdough, launching Saturday 3 October

Give me three things:
1. A creative brief in no more than 80 words.
2. Three different image prompts for a 4:5 photo. The image must contain no words, letters or logos.
3. One caption of no more than 60 words.

GPT-6 Sol: fast and literal

Sol finished in 15 seconds by ChatGPT's own timer. Every fact was correct and nothing was invented. Its three prompts were deliberately plain — one loaf, plain surface, soft light — and it listed the surface, lighting and angles as its own choices.

That caution has a cost. Because the brief never describes the loaf, Sol described almost nothing about it: no crumb colour, no pumpkin cue, no setting. The picture those prompts produce is correct and forgettable.

GPT-6 Astra: asks for a reference

Astra took 10 seconds in ChatGPT. It also invented nothing, but it made a different call: every image prompt said the loaf should match a supplied product reference, and its assumptions list said an accurate reference would be needed.

That is the more useful answer for a real business. A generated loaf that looks nothing like the real one is a problem at the counter, and Astra built the fix into the prompts.

Astra inside Ciyo

Ciyo's agent offers GPT-6 Astra; it does not offer Sol or Luna. We selected Astra, pasted the same brief and added one line asking it to make prompt 1. It wrote the brief, three prompts and a caption, then placed a 4:5 image on the canvas and reported 2 credits for the picture.

Its closing note repeated the Astra habit from ChatGPT: check that the illustrative loaf resembles your actual product before posting. The board shows three results side by side — from Sol's prompt, from a prompt written by Claude Opus 5.5, and from Astra's own prompt in Ciyo.

Which to choose

Pick Sol when the facts are complete and you want a fast, cheap, literal first draft, or when you will write the visual direction yourself. Pick Astra when the brief is thin, because it is more likely to tell you what is missing — here, a photo of the real product.

Either way, give the model the missing piece. A product photo as a reference in the image generator does more for the final picture than a more expensive planning model.
